Naomi & Emily are two characters from the UK TV series, Skins, that struggled with their emergent feelings for each other and eventually ended up in a relationship together. This blog is about bringing you media content that features Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Intersex and Queer representations in the media. We will be posting videos, facts, articles and quotes that support Queer representations in the media, considering it is one of the most underrepresented minority groups in the media.
The blog will be curated by a diverse group of students who understand that the media we consume affects the way that people think. There are many prevalent stereotypes about the LGBTQ community in the media today, although these don’t necessarily encapsulate the kind of diversity that actually exists within the community.
It’s our theory that the only way to combat these stereotypes is to have more representations within the media so that diversity can thrive, and negative stereotypes can become a thing of the past. This blog exists to expose people to all of the various representations that currently exist. We hope, of course, that there will be more to come as media giants begin to realize that we are not at a silent community and deserve to be equally represented.
